We are proud to announce the achievement of Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) status, a significant milestone recognizing its commitment to increasing women and girls' participation in football. This status, granted by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), underscores the foundation's dedication to providing a safe and inclusive environment for women and girls to engage in the sport.
Established in 2022, Athena Glasgow Women and Girls Football Academy has been at the forefront of promoting football among women and girls in the North of Glasgow. The academy offers a welcoming space where participants can not only develop their football skills but also gain valuable life skills through teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
“This achievement marks a pivotal moment for Athena Glasgow Football Foundation,” said Craig O'Leary, Chairperson of the foundation. “Obtaining SCIO status highlights our unwavering commitment to empowering women and girls through football. It enhances our credibility and paves the way for greater funding opportunities and partnerships, enabling us to broaden our reach and impact.”
With SCIO status, Athena Glasgow Football Foundation will benefit from limited liability protection for its trustees, reinforcing the governance and operational transparency of the organisation. This new status also facilitates access to grants and donations, which are essential for sustaining and expanding the foundation's programs.
The rigorous application process for SCIO status included a comprehensive review of the foundation’s operations, governance structures, and financial health, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of accountability and effectiveness within the charitable sector.
